Approach
Our firm is known for its collaborative, value-oriented team approach. We carefully listen to clients as they define problems and goals, and then provide creative, realistic, and buildable solutions. We believe that good design should not start with a preconceived idea or a style. Instead, we build on decades of knowledge by customizing our design process to each client and each project. We draw from central Virginia’s most qualified engineers, interior designers, landscape architects, and contractors, as each project requires.
Values
Every day, we strive to communicate the hopes, values and aspirations of our clients and our community. We craft buildings that are forward-looking in form and content, yet will endure the test of time. We draw inspiration from the natural characteristics of each site and link our work to the historical and cultural context of the project. The attention to detail in our designs showcases the skills and talent of the men and women who construct, fabricate, and install the work. By removing distraction and clutter we create efficiency. All this is done with a commitment to reconciling dreams and resources before drawing the first line.

Sustainability
Our firm promotes environmentally sustainable solutions whenever possible, even when there are conflicting pressures of time, cost, and quality. Our common-sense approach results in energy-efficient buildings that cost less to operate. Beginning with the site, we orient the building for the best use of natural light, wind and drainage patterns. We work diligently to reduce the environmental impact during construction by minimizing the amount of disruption to the site’s terrain. We regularly specify the use of raw materials that can be replenished in a generation, products with high recycled content, and systems that protect indoor air quality.
Collaboration
One of our greatest strengths at Blue Ridge Architects is collaboration. The creation of a building is a complex undertaking and our clients are best served when architects, engineers and construction professionals come together as a design team. Each member of the team has training and experience vital to the success of the project. Good communication, collaboration, respect for, and advocacy of the other team members and the client’s needs results in a project that is greater than the sum of individual efforts.
